Understanding Seller of Travel Requirements

Last updated July 3, 2026

What Are Seller of Travel Laws?

Seller of Travel (SOT) laws are state-level regulations that require businesses selling travel services to register with the state, maintain trust accounts, and comply with consumer protection rules.

How This Affects bookMyTeam

bookMyTeam connects teams with hotels, so we must comply with SOT requirements. Some states have strict requirements that prevent us from operating there.

Where We Operate

We serve the United States, excluding CA, FL, HI, IA, and WA.

Why These States Are Excluded

  • California (CA): Requires SOT registration and a trust account.
  • Florida (FL): Requires SOT registration and a surety bond.
  • Hawaii (HI): Requires a travel agency license and bonding.
  • Iowa (IA): Requires registration as a travel seller.
  • Washington (WA): Requires registration and consumer protection fund participation.
