Two clusters decide a San Antonio team trip
Sports tourism produced $274.5 billion in total economic impact and $111.2 billion in direct spending in the United States, per Sports ETA’s 2026 State of the Industry report. Youth and amateur events carry $60.1 billion of that spending. San Antonio Sports reports more than $1 billion of economic impact over 38 years from 130 major events, including four NCAA Men’s Final Fours and three Women’s Final Fours, a milestone announced in 2022.
Texas Comptroller room-tax filings compiled by TexasHotelSearch show 450 San Antonio hotels filing in the trailing year, registry capacity of 44,420 rooms, up 410, and $1.3 billion in trailing room revenue. Visit San Antonio counts 48,000 rooms citywide, more than 14,000 of them within walking distance of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center on the River Walk.
The venue a squad travels for
The Freeman Coliseum complex at 3201 East Houston Street anchors the east side. Its rental packet lists a 31,250 square foot floor seating up to 10,150 people, with 7,630 fixed seats, plus a 67,500 square foot Expo Hall C. The packet dates from 2021, so confirm current capacities. The downtown hotel cluster sits about 2.7 miles west of that campus.
How this ranking is built
These ten are the largest San Antonio hotels by registry room count. The counts come from each property’s Texas Comptroller filing. Registry capacity is self-reported, unaudited and can lag renovations. Revenue per room is trailing twelve months of receipts divided by registry rooms, a market average. One row carries more rooms than two properties below but names no hotel operation, so it is left out: 111 E Pecan Landlord, 390 rooms.
Bed configuration, shared team floors, breakfast start times and coach or trailer parking sit in the sales conversation. Directory pages carry the address, tier and brand, and list check-in and check-out as not specified.
The ten largest hotels by registry rooms
Figures are fiscal 2025 revenue and trailing revenue per room.
1. Grand Hyatt San Antonio Riverwalk, 1,003 rooms
600 East Market Street. The largest registered count in the market and the convention center anchor. $51.9 million room revenue, $54,000 per room, up 2.2 percent.
2. JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa, 1,002 rooms
23808 Resort Parkway. The top earner in the market. $88.0 million room revenue, $85,000 per room, down 4.2 percent.
3. Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk, 630 rooms
123 Losoya Street. $30.8 million room revenue, $49,000 per room, down 7.1 percent.
4. San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk, 502 rooms
889 East Market Street. $25.3 million room revenue, $50,000 per room, down 3.3 percent.
5. Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort, 500 rooms
9800 Hyatt Resort Drive, in the resort corridor. $37.9 million room revenue, $79,000 per room, up 7.3 percent.
6. La Cantera Resort & Spa, 496 rooms
16641 La Cantera Parkway. $35.5 million room revenue, $80,000 per room, up 23.7 percent, the fastest growth of the ten.
7. Hilton Palacio Del Rio, 485 rooms
200 South Alamo Street, on the River Walk. $22.8 million room revenue, $49,000 per room, up 2.9 percent.
8. The Westin Riverwalk, San Antonio, 474 rooms
420 West Market Street. $24.9 million room revenue, $51,000 per room, down 6.4 percent.
9. Hilton San Antonio Airport, 384 rooms
611 Northwest Loop 410, the address the network directory lists under DoubleTree by Hilton San Antonio Airport. $8.3 million room revenue, $21,000 per room, down 10.7 percent.
10. Marriott San Antonio Airport, 367 rooms
77 Northeast Loop 410. $14.8 million room revenue, $40,000 per room, down 3.7 percent.

The four questions to put in your request
- Bed configuration: how many rooms take two beds, how many take one, and how many of each fit in a ten-room block.
- Shared team floors: whether the property will hold the whole squad on one floor or on adjacent floors.
- Breakfast start time: the earliest the kitchen opens, because a 7 a.m. bus does not wait for an 8 a.m. buffet.
- Bus and trailer parking: whether the lot takes a coach and a trailer, and whether those spaces need reserving.

What the tax stack adds to the block
Guests pay a 9 percent city hotel occupancy tax, made up of a 7 percent general rate and 2 percent for the convention center expansion, plus the 1.75 percent Bexar County collects through the city and the 6 percent state hotel tax, for a combined 16.75 percent. Bexar County’s venue-project resolution records that rate and the increase to 2.0 percent voters approved in November 2025, which takes the combined rate to 17.0 percent.

Fifteen double rooms for three nights is 45 room-nights. At the Grand Hyatt’s published $54,000 of trailing revenue per room, about $148 a night, that is $6,657.75 in room revenue and $7,772.92 all in once the 16.75 percent stack adds $1,115.17, or about $259 per traveller on a 30-person squad. The same block at the JW Marriott Hill Country’s $85,000 per room, about $233 a night, comes to $10,479.60 before tax and $12,234.93 after, roughly $408 per traveller. Both are trailing averages from state filings.
