8:30 a.m. step-off, and the hours before it

The 2026 Dallas Holiday Parade steps off Saturday, December 5 at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Dallas. The parade site prints that time in its banner and on its vendor page. Its Things to Know FAQ still answers "9 a.m.," so plan the crew against 8:30 and read that FAQ line as older copy.

A marching unit's morning starts well before the step-off. The vendor page publishes the parade-day clock. Load-in at 5 a.m., the festival opens at 7 a.m., the parade steps off at 8:30, the first unit reaches the television zone at 9 a.m., and live entertainment at the park begins at noon. Work backward from 8:30 for the unit's own check-in and lineup.

Hundreds of buses, and the volunteers who park them

The volunteer page names the position that matters to a unit arriving by coach: Bus Wrangler. The page reads "Bus wranglers assist with parking the millions of buses that carry the band members and dancers," and then "It's not really millions, but it is hundreds." The same page lists Dispersal, the crew stationed at the end of the route to direct parade elements to unload or drive out of downtown.

A wrangler directs each coach into its spot. That wrangler is a volunteer in the official sweatshirt who attends a training session before parade morning. A unit that needs its driver to know the drop and the pickup confirms both with the parade office before the trip.

Staging: the map posted today is last year's

The Things to Know page carries four maps under the headings "2025 BLEACHER MAP," "2025 MERCHANT STREET CLOSURES MAP," "2025 ROUTE MAP WITH RESTROOMS" and "2025 STAGING LINEUP MAP." No 2026 staging lineup is posted. Read the 2025 sheet for the shape of the staging area, then confirm the 2026 layout with the parade office before a driver commits to a street.

The same FAQ puts the route's start at Commerce and Houston streets. Treat that corner as the working plan and check it against the 2026 map when the parade publishes one.

Who handles a unit's entry

The Participate page names the entries contacts. Directors of Bands are Elizabeth Davila at 214-766-4105 and Jackie Lemons at 972-951-0330, both at Bands@DallasHolidayParade.com. The Director of Dance Teams is Tara Barnett at 817-729-8931 and Tara@DallasHolidayParade.com. The homepage contact block prints the same person as "Tara Barnet." A marching unit and a dance team go through different desks.

Applications run through the register link on the Participate page. The page publishes no entry fee.

Uniforms and the volunteer rules

Every person on the parade route must wear a costume or the official parade uniform. The page states that anyone without one is removed from the route. The 2026 sweatshirt is dark heather grey with a gingerbread house logo, priced at $25 for small through extra large and $30 for 2XL and 3XL. A sweatshirt bought at a volunteer meeting costs $5 more and takes card only. Sweatshirts are collected in person at the volunteer school and are not available on parade morning.

Volunteer orientation runs two evenings, Tuesday, December 1 and Wednesday, December 2, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The page states a minimum volunteer age of 13 with anyone under 18 accompanied by an adult, and later states that all volunteers must be 18. Ask the coordinator which rule governs. Sharon Price is listed at 214-477-7987.

Getting a crew in without a coach

The Getting Here page routes crews to DART. St. Paul, Akard and West End stations serve the route on the Red, Blue, Orange and Green lines. EBJ/Union Station carries the Red and Blue lines plus the Trinity Railway Express, and the Dallas Streetcar stops at Union Station. DART trains run from roughly 5 a.m. to midnight.

DART's group sales page publishes a Day Pass at $6 for local service and $9 for regional service, preordered for one to seven days with unlimited rides on consecutive days of use. The passes are non-refundable. A marching unit of 60 costs $360 in local day passes. A regional pass fits a crew that starts on Trinity Metro or DCTA. Advance orders go through 214-749-3418.

Rooms within walking distance of the route

The parade page sends parking questions to Downtown Dallas Inc. and publishes no parade lot. The convention center at 650 S Griffin St publishes $20 per day per entry with no in-and-out for its on-site garage, and $17 for Lot C at 502 S Lamar St. Both rates belong to the convention center.

Book rooms close enough that the unit walks to the staging area, and the coach stays out of downtown. DART covers the crew that stays further out. Our Dallas directory lists what each downtown property carries, and the group rate calculator prices a block for a unit of any size.
