One day, then four more
Lightovation Design + Build Day runs Tuesday 5 January 2027 at Dallas Market Center, 2100 North Stemmons Freeway in Dallas. Two shows follow. Lightovation: Dallas International Lighting Show runs 6 to 9 January 2027, and Total Home & Gift Market runs 6 to 12 January. Dallas Market Center describes the January and June lighting show as the largest residential lighting show in North America, across 1 million square feet of exhibits.
The published programme for 5 January lists a Welcome to Lightovation Tour at 10:00 AM, meeting at the TM 1 Koi Pond, and Hospitality Giants presented by Interior Design Magazine at 2:30 PM on the TM 3 Loft main stage. The market summarises the day as designer-led seminars, curated showroom experiences and a closing networking reception. No end time for the reception is published.
A design or build firm sending a team has two jobs in a fixed order: qualify the business for a badge, then book the block.
Admission is trade only
Dallas Market Center is a private trade facility. Its admission policy states that the campus is open to trade professionals and not to the general public. Every person entering must be registered and must wear a DMC-issued badge visibly at all times inside the buildings.
Admission for a design or build firm requires current membership in an accredited trade association plus the relevant state licence or certification.
The $150 fee and the 90-day clock
Every business new to the market pays a $150.00 new business application fee and holds 90 calendar days to qualify by completing the application and submitting the documents for its business type. Designers, builders and architects requalify every four years.
Ninety calendar days before 5 January 2027 falls on 7 October 2026. A firm that files on 20 October 2026 has 77 days left inside the window. A firm that starts in December misses it.
What a designer submits
The document set for a registered interior designer, architect, builder or specifier is a sales tax permit with the right SIC or NAICS code, an online portfolio, proof of ownership and full-time employment, and verification of professional membership. The accepted proofs are current state certification in interior design, architecture or home building with the NCIDQ exam passed, or current membership in ASID, AIA or IIDA.
Four client passes at no charge
A qualified registered designer, architect or builder may bring four clients at no charge. Each client stays with the qualified designer for the visit.
Staff take a separate route. Spouses and children of the registered buyer receive a courtesy badge at no charge. Additional buyers must be full-time employees. The document set is a corporate credit card showing the buyer's name and company name, plus a paystub showing at least 32 hours worked within the last three weeks, or a cancelled payroll check showing front and back. Minors, clients, part-time employees, representatives, contractors and interns cannot be added as buyers. In-laws and other relatives buy guest passes, limited to two, at a non-refundable $50 each.
Register on two tracks
The Design + Build Day page sends returning attendees to a registration link and new visitors to an RSVP form. The RSVP consent line names FastPass QR codes among the messages the market sends. Companies that have attended a market before register through the attendee log-in.
Then the rooms
Connections Housing is the only approved housing vendor on the market's booking portal. Its booking page carries a 2027 January Lightovation block for 6 to 9 January and shows a starting rate for each property. The market's own site publishes no nightly rate, cut-off date or minimum stay, so the block is the published pricing route.
The portal carries a Buyer Beware notice. It states that Connections Housing is the only approved, official housing vendor and asks anyone contacted by another company to email DMCTravel@connectionshousing.com.
Arriving on the campus
Parking is free across the campus, including accessible spaces. Valet at the front of the World Trade Center runs 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday to Friday at $8 and is complimentary for interior designers and independent decorators. During January and June markets the lot in front of IHDC is reserved for buyers, and valet does not operate during the January Total Home & Gift Market. Cabs and rideshare pick up at the Trade Mart front entrance. Shuttles run to select hotels and campus lots, and the January schedule is released closer to the market.
Show floor hours for the lighting show are 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM Wednesday 6 January through Friday 8 January, and 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM on Saturday 9 January.
Costing the trip
Three double rooms over three nights is nine room-nights. At an example $189 a night the rooms cost $1,701. bookmyteam.org publishes a group band of 15 to 40 percent below rack, which puts nine room-nights between $1,021 at 40 percent off and $1,446 at 15 percent off. The $189 is a planning input, and the market's block is the quote to beat.
Badge cost totals $150 for the business, nothing for four clients and $100 for two guest passes.
What to settle before booking
Ask whether the firm is already qualified, because a qualified business skips the 90-day window. Ask whether the four client passes can be issued for 5 January alone. Ask the housing desk for the block cut-off date, the minimum stay and the cancellation terms in writing. Ask which hotels the January shuttle serves.
Then price the block against the open market. Submit the room block request with the roster and dates, and read how the bidding works before the offers land.
