Nine Nights of Free Light Art
The Portland Winter Light Festival runs 5 to 13 February 2027. That is nine nights of free light art. The organisers publish the scope as more than 100 locations across Portland, with installations, performances and live events in the downtown core, in neighbourhoods and in storefront windows.
The 2026 edition drew more than 262,000 people to 219 installations. The festival is a program of Nightlab, a Portland nonprofit. Portland General Electric holds the presenting sponsor role, a role it has held every year since the first edition, and it returns for 2027.
Pop-up sites run 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. unless the organisers note otherwise. The 2027 theme is "In Other Words", which the organisers describe as communication in all its forms: light, sound, movement and connection between strangers.
Three Anchor Sites Carry Most of the Performances
The Plan Your Visit page names three anchor sites: Pioneer Courthouse Square at 701 SW 6th Avenue, the World Trade Center at 131 SW Salmon Street and the Electric Blocks at 236 SE Clay. It names further locations at the Glow Bar at Columbia Square, 111 SW Columbia Street, at Director Park, at Big Pink and at Ankeny Alley. Most performances take place at the anchor sites.
A team with one evening can work a single anchor site and see a full programme there. A team with two evenings can split the group across sites and meet afterwards.
The hours page adds a scheduling rule. Anchor sites open on Fridays and Saturdays only, and pop-up sites run every night of the published window. That page still carries the 2026 date list of 6-7 and 13-14 February, so confirm the 2027 anchor nights with the organiser before booking dinner. The two Fridays and two Saturdays inside the 2027 window are 5, 6, 12 and 13 February.
What the Evening Costs
Admission is free.
Transit is the one line a planner can price today. TriMet charges an adult $2.80 for a 2½-hour ticket and caps a day at $5.60. A party of ten costs $56 for the day at the cap. A party of twelve costs $67.20. A TriMet fare also covers the Portland Streetcar at no extra charge, so the group rides between anchor sites on one ticket. Riders tap a phone or a contactless card at the reader on board.
The Plan Your Visit page lists a free Portland Streetcar window that begins at 5 p.m. on 6, 7, 13 and 14 February, and that date list belongs to the 2026 cycle. Verify the 2027 nights with the organiser before building a fare line on the free window.
Parking carries no published rate. The Plan Your Visit page states that paid parking downtown operates first-come, first-served. Budget the transit cap and hold parking as an open line until the group picks a garage. Cyclists get free bike parking at the anchor sites.
Run It as an Optional Night
Nine consecutive nights give an offsite planner room to move. Put the festival on the agenda as an optional evening, publish the transit route and the meeting point, and let attendees choose the site.
The Plan Your Visit page recommends arriving early and eating dinner before the crowds arrive. The hours page asks visitors to check the programme page before travelling to a site.
The festival's FAQ page still serves a 2020 build, so treat its operational answers as historical. It lists food and hot beverages for sale from local food cart vendors, with no vendor prices published.
Book the Beds Around the Dates
bookMyTeam sends each request to 50+ hotels per destination. The home page publishes 103,857+ hotels across 46 states, a 15-40% band against rack rates, a $0 fee and a 24-72 hour response window. Its glossary defines a group rate as a booking of 10+ rooms. Its Portland directory lists 278 hotels.
An offsite of 12 rooms for two nights at an example $150 nightly rate runs $3,600. At the published 15-40% band the block lands $540 to $1,440 under rack. Send the dates through the RFP form and let the hotels price the festival window. The group rate calculator gives a first pass before the bids land.
